Description
Extraction:
Steam distillation of the fresh and partially dried upper grass.
Charactersitics:
A yellow or amber coloured liquid with a strong, fresh, grassy lemon-type, fresh and light odour.
TOP NOTE
Odour effects:
Stimulating and reviving.
Cautions:
Could irritate sensitive skins.
Main chemical constituents:
Citral – 80%
Methyl heptenone – 1%
Myrcene dipentene – 14%
Linalool, geraniol, nerol, citronellol, farnesol – 1%
Properties and indications:
MIND
Energising. Lifts the spirits and gets things moving again.
BODY
A good tonic for the body. Gives a boost to the parasympathetic nerves which aids recovery from illness. Encourages appetite and could be helpful with colitis, indigestion and gastro-enteritis. Has a strong, antiseptic action and could be particularly useful with respiratory infections such as sore throats, laryngitis and fevers. Excellent for aching muscles, eliminating lactates and stimulating circulation. Can bring relief to tired legs, especially after standing for long periods of time. Could be useful for jetlag, clearing headaches, and relieving fatigue. Aids flow of breast milk in nursing mothers.
SKIN
Gives good tone to skin, and may be especially helpful on loose skin. Supposedly able to clear acne and balance oily skin conditions. Could help control fungal infections.
Other uses:
Used extensively in soaps, detergents, cosmetics and perfumes. Is a flavour ingredient in most major food categories.
